SERVICES FOR CHILDREN
My counselling sessions for children provide a free and protected space to explore feelings safely. Children find it hard sometimes to articulate their feelings. They may be confused about what they are feeling or not find the words to express what is going on inside them.
Creativity and play feel very natural to children. By communicating at a metaphoric level (through their art), the therapist gains valuable insights into the child'’s inner world; a non-intrusive way to explore traumatic, frightening, or shaming experiences.
Children who are labeled a problem at school or amongst peers can be helped by the therapeutic process. The potential cycle of negative behaviour is replaced by more positive alternatives. For example, by helping a child to manage anger and reflect on these feelings instead of lashing out.
I can help children who experience:
Behavioural difficulties (e.g., anger, defiance)
Learning, physical, and emotional difficulties
Enuresis, encopresis (bed wetting)
Eating disorder
Anxiety
Grief, loss, and trauma
Social Isolation
In Play Therapy ... the child experiences self-exploration, self-in-relation-to-others, self-expansion and self-expression, he learns to accept and respect not only himself but others as well, and he learns to use freedom with a sense of responsibility. Virginia M. Axline, Play Therapy (1993).
